Farewell, Gary

For those of you that haven’t heard, Gary Gygax died this morning. He was 69 and had apparently been suffering from health problems for some time. The Associated Press has much more about it.
There’s (obviously) quite a few jokes that could be made here, but I’m bummed. I really respected the hell out of that guy, and D&D had an amazing influence on my life. He influenced millions of us n3rds, and I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of people more eloquent and more knowledgeable about him than myself. I’ll just say that he had a huge, very positive effect on my life and I’m forever grateful to him for that. And I’m sure there’s plenty of other people that feel the same way.
If there’s a better legacy to leave behind, I have yet to hear of it.

There goes my goal of getting him to bless one of my 20 sided die!

If not for Mr Gygax, I’d not have the friends I have now, nor my husband. Thanks be to all the deities in the original Deities & Demigods for him. I’d be curled up in the corner of a mental institution somewhere if not for the outlet he provided me.

I can relate, azzacca. If it weren’t for all the D&D books and modules, I would not have been able to escape the hell that was middle school.
