An Interesting Idea

Taking the idea of YouTube and tweaking it towards gamers (as if YouTube isn’t already), WeGame is a new site that doesn’t just focus on hosting game-related videos, it actually provides you with some tools to create the videos.

I haven’t really played with the site very much. I read this article and it caught my interest and I hope to get some free time to dig around there a little bit. The creator hopes they’ll see a lot more “gems” (and I use that term VERY loosely) like the Leeroy Jenkins clip (yes, it’s true, I’m not a Leeroy fan).

Call me a skeptic, but I think we’re going to see a lot more “OMG WACH ME KILL BICHES, Y0!!1!” The trick with sites like this isn’t the HOSTING of the content – it’s the ability to separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak. So I’m curious what that site’s going to be like in a month or two when it’s got a few thousand (million?) clips.

That’s not to say I wish them ill or I think they’re going to fail or anything – not in the slightest, I actually wish them huge success. I’m just curious as to how they’re proposing to compete with the bazillion existing services out there already.
