Not With A Bang…

I was as shocked as anyone else to see that Sanya had left Mythic/EA. Granted, I don’t know her as well as some folks, and I certainly can’t give her the accolades she deserves (or at least not in as clever a way as she deserves), but I’m going to miss her from a purely selfish point. Sanya was the first (and only) community person to ever get involved in our fund-raising for the MS Walk not just as a cool person and friend, but as a representative of her company. The Turbies, Gord bless ‘em, came here out of the goodness of their hearts with whatever swag they could steal, but they did it on their dime as their own people without much help from the Big Giant Heads. Sanya not only came with the blessings of her company, but as an actual representative of Mythic – and of the gamers that played DAoC – to show their support. And this was even after I bad-mouthed her people.
When she didn’t show up for the Walk this year, I figured she’d gotten held up with their Philly player gathering that was going on that weekend. But now that I find less pleasant things were at work, and I feel bad I didn’t do something crazy, like – I don’t know, try and call her? Yeah, well, what the heck do I know about being a good friend.
I’m just glad she’s not trapped on a snowy hillside somewhere with some crazy woman in a cabin that’s going to nurse her back to health while telling her all the things that are wrong with Pallys…
The intraweb is full of people singing praises (rightfully so) to Sanya, and other choad’s bad-mouthing her (I personally hope that she takes her free time now and tracks them all down – I’ll be the Silent Bob to her Jay!). But damn, I love that woman. I hope she goes on to something hugely successful – that rightfully appreciates her!

I remember from way back in my DAoC beta days. She’d post on the boards and always kept in close contact with the community. Hope she has lots of success in whatever it is she goes on to do.

Having worked for “The Company”, I can say with a degree of certainty that she likely got sick of wearing hip-waders to work.
Sanya, if you read this, shoot me an e-mail and we’ll chat. Best of luck to you in your future endeavors and if there’s anything I can do, just holler. (I’m still in the industry… just fyi.)

I met Sanya at our first MS Walk in 2005. What a complete and awesome chick!
Lots and lots of hugs, and all my best for your moving forward
