It’d Be Funny If It Weren’t So Predictable

"VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES HAVE IMPACT ON CHILDREN," the headline screams at me. It’s our local news station, doing one of their "in-depth" reports on video games. They talk to such pro-gaming experts as a couple teens serving time in a county detention center to really capture a fair and balanced view of gamers. Never mind any research to the contrary, this is a story that will make people tune in, by golly!
Ironically enough, every year we’ve contacted this same station about covering the gamers that rally to our team in the MS Walk and sponsor us to the tune of several thousand dollars, but apparently, that’s not as newsworthy as pointing out all the danger of these video games. Every year we’re told that story’s "not something they’re choosing to cover right now" – when we get a response, that is. Usually we just talk with someone at the station or send in our emails, and we’re told "they’ll get back to us."
Yeah, I know: what a surprise, right? It’s just so annoying to hear them sprout lines like, "You won’t BELIEVE the footage we show you from these games that your children MIGHT BE PLAYING, RIGHT NOW!!!" Never mind that those games shouldn’t be in the hands of your children if you’re anything resembling a responsible parent or any such rubbish.
Sigh. The struggle continues.

Well, since when has the media been concerned about giving a fair and unbaised report when ratings are on the line?

Typical of morons who know nothing of video games. They must have had a slow week in the news office.

I say we ransack the station with the rocket launchers and high power automatic weaponry that we inevitably have and are able to use with proficiency since we play these violent video games. Lend some truth to their sensationalism and all that.
