MOGs N3RDCast, 03 May 2006 – DDO, Upcoming MOGs, Kissing Sanya’s Butt

At long last, we return to talking about MOGs. Well, one MOG, DDO, that we actually play, and a lot of other bitching, speculation, and distracted blathering about upcoming MOGs.
I’m still trying to get a template I’m happy with in DDO. For this reason (and because it always makes me laugh), I cornered Woody and Dr Sexy before our weekly Sopranos watching and yammered at them incorrectly about any number of things (oh sure the Khopesh is 1D10 damage!). But lucky for you guys we were in a hurry to watch our show, because we cut ourselves off before we get too boring. Or not, actually.
Still, I do enjoy talking about upcoming MOGs. Especially Pirates of the Burning Sea and Warhammer. Those are at the top of my list right now, and after this talk, I think War is definitely at the top of Dr. Sexy’s as well.
If you’re the sort that enjoys pointless blathering about MOGs, well, this is the N3RDCast just for you! And hey, feel free to post your thoughts on a good fighter template.
And a secret message for Sanya…

Before I get into details about him, I have a level 9 Human true class Fighter. His weapons (+1 Frost Greataxe and +2 Frost Returning Dagger) aren’t great and his armor (+2 Twilight Full Plate) is worse, but he deals a considerable amount of damage. I think I started out with the following:
STR 18 — DEX 12 — CON 16 — INT 8 — WIS 9 — CHA 8
With items, enhancements and feats, he is now at:
STR 27 — DEX 11 — CON 17 — INT 8 — WIS 9 — CHA 8
Most of the feats I took were to increase damage over time:
Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization, Greater Weapon Focus, Improved Proficiency, Improved Critical
All of which were to cater to my use of solely Greataxes. I did during my first levels take Weapon Focus for Bludgeoning, though, which was a mistake. The most important things to a group are probably board and nail Fighters. If you’re on a high-population server, it really doesn’t matter what path you take. I re-rolled as a Cleric because I couldn’t find groups on my Fighter on Tharashk during the night.
Anyways, I’ll leave it at that for now and come back and listen to this thing after my interview.
See, I’m really torn about that whole mobility thing. I’d rather take things like greater weap. focus – but I don’t know if being able to charge up to a mob w/o a to hit penalty is really worth it… I mean, it’s just that first hit you lose out on, is that really that big a deal?
Guess we have the topic for the next N3RDCast… =P

It really depends on how you play your Fighter, too. Some days I feel a little more upbeat and do a lot of physical dodging. Stepping in for strikes, backing out. Jumping over creatures while swinging, thus turning them around so a rogue can sneak attack. It isn’t a large penalty. A lot of the time if I’m not moving, I am a SP sink because of my low quality armor and low armor class. At the same time, I rely heavily on being able to take things down quickly. And moving hinders this slightly, but the biggest difference isn’t the damage, more the fact that I take myself out combat range.
Well, I don’t want to move. I want to stand there and beat on things. Preferably by hitting as few buttons as possible, which gives me fewer chances to screw things up.
How’d the interview go?

FYI: Shan-To-Kor is still carebear. All you have to do is form a shield wall in a corner to protect the Wizards and Sorcerers. The Fire Giant aggro’s the casters, but can’t reach them. They really need to change pathing so if a creature can’t reach a character, it attacks the closest.
Speaking of which, what server are you guys playing on?

The interview went well, but a, “We’ll call you with your schedule for next week.” would have been more re-assuring then, “We’ll get back to you.”
And if you’re only going to be standing around swinging like a madman, don’t worry about it. It isn’t even a penalty you should be considering.
