Our First N3RDCast!

Here it is, hot off the… thingy.

It’s not perfect; there’s a lot of popping and clicking at certain parts, and I’m not sure why. My best guess is that stupid mic cord, maybe? I don’t know, whatever it was, I couldn’t clean it up, and no way were we going to sit there and do all THAT again! When Kwipette and I talk, there’s also some volume issues. And I get a little excited with the sound effects…

But hey, Best. Intro. Music. Ever. Check it out, let me know what we can do to improve it for you!

  1. Make it dial-up friendly! :P

  2. Hey there, long time reader…well, sorta long…first time poster. Qualitywise it sounded fine to me, but for some reason I had to turn the volume all the way up on windows, the player (WinAmp) and the speakers to get a decent volume.

  3. quicktime played it well for me, maybe a mike stand…..

  4. The noise in the N3RDCAST sounds like mic handling. Were the mics being held in people’s hands (as opposed to sitting in a mic stand)?

  5. Yeah, the volume was a bit low. I’m never sure how to tweak that – I don’t know what a ‘good’ level is.

Yeah, I was holding the mic – don’t have a mic stand yet. I guess I’ll fire off an email to Santa real quick, see if he’s still got a slot in his bag…

  6. “Im never sure how to tweak that – I dont know what a good level is.”

I’ve not yet used Audacity so I don’t know if you can see any type of volume level bars when recording. If so, a good level is about three quarters up. Any levels in the red, or maxing out are overmodulated and sound distorted (ever hear a recording of a kid that essentially puts the mic in his mouth when he’s talking?).

  7. Quality was fine…you should hear that priest in Belgium go on. I laughed, I cried…I shreiked in girly terror when the gunfire went off. I work in a bank, it kind of freaked me out.

  8. who cares about the quality of the sound production. what’s important is the content. ugh. why must i constantly cast my pearls of wisdom out to the masses?
i liked the news stories and how you covered them.
Most important, I was mentioned in the podcast, so i thought it was great.
