Comics N3RDCast 14 June, 2010: A Lone Voice!

With our schedules being so crazy, I gave up trying to get us all together (even via Skype) and just sat down to do a show myself. This will probably be the course of the shows in the near future – although I’ll plug in segments from Sexy & HJ for future shows.

If you haven’t done so, by all means head over to LeadSlinger Studios and check out issue #1 of Captain Bludgeon. I promise you won’t be disappointed. Well… Unless you did NOT want to see gratuitous violence and vulgar hilarity. In which case, yes, you will be very disappointed…

If you haven’t seen Bruce’s iPad unboxing video, check it out now. It’s interesting to hear his insights from his first use of it to his using it now when he’s more experienced. (And have you ever been experienced?)

I’m not sure what Marvel is doing with their comics for iPad. Well, other than pissing off their retailers. Another example of a great idea that’s being implemented piss-poorly. And $1.99 for digital comics? Bullshit.

I continue to be disappointed with comic professionals acting like 3.99 is an aberrant price – as if THEIR company would never do such a thing! And then you get a 3.99 book, and it SUCKS?!? Really? For shame.

Sadie Mattox wrote an interesting article about comic store etiquette that I’m sure everyone will insist is common sense, yet not all store employees actually follow… Nor customers, for that matter.

I’m a fan of Mark Fiore, so they whole bruhah over Steve Jobs calling him a liar definitely caught my eye. Even moreso when it turned out to not be accurate.

Basketball players are “Supermen?” Really? Hey, way to keep up stupid values in our society, Warner Brothers! Bah. (Don’t mind me. Obviously I’m jealous because I cannot dunk.)

Wizard World Philly continues to disappoint. While they stocked up on “stars” this year, those stars were unapproachable and ridiculously outpriced. Although that might have turned out for the better – I’ve heard from a lot of people that the long lines and overpriced meet & greets turned people off, so they were left to actually wander the artist alley aisles in search of something to do. YOU KNOW, BECAUSE THE CON SUCKED!

Comics we spoil this week: SERENITY: FLOAT OUT, SECRET SIX #22, SHRAPNEL: HUBRIS #1, and AVENGERS ACADEMY #1.

  1. Well, its nice to have such a blast from the past :) . Almost felt like 2005 again.

But frankly Kwip, not a bad show. I can do without the becker voicemails, but the rest of the show was fine. Keep it up.

  2. Erm – whoops, sorry Dutchie, didn’t notice this in the “pending” bin. Thanks for the kind words. This past weekend was the last craziness I am signed up for, so I’m now hoping for a productive summer with much more regular shows – we’ll see…
