Curse You, WoW!

As everyone and their mother knows, WoW’s got a new recruit-a-friend promotion going. Triple XP over three months equals a pretty damn sweet temptation, never mind all the other perks.

I don’t really share Dr. Sexy’s excitement for Warhammer. There was a time when I was pretty excited about it, but with all of the things they’ve been cutting out of the game lately, I’m just a little apprehensive the game’s not going to be as smooth nor as fun as I’d once hoped. Then again, Trevor’s been playing the Beta for some time now and is still as enthusiastic about it as ever, so who knows.

I HATE the idea of creating a whole new account just to take advantage of this promotion, though. Not that my account holds any great features or anything (except my awesome Nether Whelp, of course). But I’ve always wanted to participate in the higher-level Battlegrounds, and this seems like a decent way to finally be able to get up near the levels required. Then again, it’s not like I have the time to play seriously right now. And even if I DID make it to the required levels, I wouldn’t have all the shiny phat lewt that everyone else would have, so I wouldn’t be the slightest bit effective. Not that I was before – but when I was playing my Shaman, I was able to at least throw down some totems that helped out at the low-level BGs.

And complicating matters even further is that I loved, loved, LOVED the PvP in DAoC – so I really am tempted by Warhammer. And who knows WHAT is going to happen when DC Online comes out. Not to mention Star Trek Online, Champions, and Gord knows WHAT else coming down the line. Warhammer 40k Online, anyone?

Sigh. Anyone else feeling the conundrum?

  1. I doubt you will see Star Trek Online any time soon if they are going to make a polished game. Cryptic has to pick up the pieces from what Perpetual left behind or start from anew (which is a better idea I think)

Mythic ended up doing a similar thing with the Warhammer IP… Climax studios had it in till 2004 while Mythic picked it up in 2005 and we are just about to see a release of it in 2008. Although Mythic used nothing of the old Climax material… Here is the Climax trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkQvPQJ1_Dk

Which is why like movies and comics you need to protect your IP’s from crap companies… otherwise you see a bunch of ruined properties and Uwe Bol ends up making money… and we all lose.

  2. I feel you brother, I feel you. Working in a gaming store almost makes it worse. All I hear, all day, is the onslaught of ‘ain’t it cool’ about everything coming down the line.
I’ve tried MMOs in the past, and just didn’t catch the bug. But…I kind of WANT to get excited like everyone else seems to be.
But where to throw my enthusiasm?
    Warhammer?
    Eh…it’s another fantasy MMO.
    Champions?
I’d like to think that could be cool…
    DC Online?
Not from the few shots I’ve seen :(
I heard there’s a new star wars one on the horizon.
    Maybe.
    *sigh*
Not that I really have time for such a thing anyway…but my inner kid really wants to play :(

  3. I recently quit WoW in order to free up more time for various projects. And I can’t believe how badly I’m jonesing to log in and play through the same zones I’ve played dozens of times already. The new recruit a friend thing is making me FOAM at the mouth with desire to make my wife re-sub with me again. And the expansion has lots of new goodies for my characters.

Kwip called me a crackhead. I’m thinking I might agree. But I so don’t caaaaaaaaaare.

  4. Yea BioWare is doing a KOTOR game. http://www.gamespot.com/news/6194664.html. It might be something to look forward to with BioWare behind it… Although might be my fanboyism as I think I might be the only person actually looking forward to Dragon Age.

  5. my sister got her account inexplicably jacked, perhaps by someone with a glass to the wall in the adjacent apartment, and through cult of personality got our entire guild (comprised almost solely of my roommates and i, past and present) to reroll characters to join in the fun. it was only warchild who got to reap the benefits but after the seemingly endless mind-douche of trying to make any progress in outland, it’s entertaining to kick your new guy 10 large and find new excitement in being able to summon an imp for the first time.

…i can’t believe i just typed that out. i’m going home now, to sleep with my wife!

  6. I actually recently started playing WoW again, just for the heck of it. I had to stop playing a while back because my group (*cough* Kwip *cough* Justin *cough*) decided to up and leave for less important things, like real life and stuff. Whiny bastiches! :)

  7. Holy crap, an Isten sighting! Alert the media!

Well Isten & Tathas, you guys should look up Josie. An attractive young thing like her desperately needs men to fawn over her and give her stuff in game. She’s just doing the 10-day trial, so you can talk her into the buddy program with offers of phat lewt, I’m sure! She’s gullible like that!

  8. i am pretty damn gullible. BUY ME THINGS!!!!

  9. you get to ride a thing that looks a lot like a zebra if you persuade a friend to join
